Favorite restaurant in Milledgeville: The Local Yolkal Cafe

College Search Tip: Start your search early. It takes time to explore different colleges and see all they have to offer. Finding that one school that is the perfect fit for you can take a while. Start early so you do not make the wrong choice simply because you were pressed for time. The earlier you start, the better your chances of finding that perfect school for you!

Fun fact about me: I was a Literary State Champion for 2 consecutive years in high school.

Favorite spot on campus: The front porch of Atkinson Hall! Atkinson is a gorgeous building, and I love to sit in the rocking chairs on the front porch because you get a great view of front campus.

What do I love most about Georgia College: There are so many things I love about GCSU, but my top two favorite things are the gorgeous campus and the tight-knit community. Georgia College is a place where you will always feel welcome and at home.

Favorite restaurant in Milledgeville: Kai Thai

College Search Tip: When thinking about your college choice, try to think about the future and not just the present. Rather than choosing a school that focuses on just one of your current hobbies, research different activities, clubs, social engagements, and sports that you’re interested in and have yet to try, and consider that when choosing your school. College is all about exploring who you are, so pick a school that can foster you as you grow and find new interests.

Fun fact about me: In 2018 my essay was selected by the producers of SNL & they awarded me two tickets to attend their season 44 premier in the floor seats of the audience! It was the coolest trip (and my first to NYC) and it was a once in a lifetime opportunity to sit so close to the stage as the actors performed their skits. The lady that issued me the tickets told me that winning the tickets was more rare than being struck by lightning twice!

Favorite spot on campus: The library study rooms! I loved tucking myself away into one and studying or writing papers. I found that, in my own experience, the privacy of the study rooms was a perfect place to foster productivity or catch a quiet moment between classes.

What do I love most about Georgia College: I love the class sizes and the individual attention from the professors. By the time I’d finished my first semester at Georgia College, I felt that my professors all knew not only my name, but my strengths and weaknesses in their courses. My professors were able to get to know me due to the smaller class sizes that allowed for every student’s voice to be heard and that type of individualized attention is not something that every college campus can offer.

Favorite restaurant in Milledgeville: The Brick! The Montezuma’s Revenge sandwich is amazing.

College Search Tip: Avoid enrolling somewhere just because of the university's name or because your friends may be going there. Try to make a decision based on the school fit for your career interests and somewhere you can visualize as your second home. The college search process can be difficult, so make sure you devote plenty of time and consideration to ensure a decision that is right for you.

Fun fact about me: I rescued two cats from the humane society here in Milledgeville!

Favorite spot on campus: The Den was my favorite place on campus as a student. It's a unique spot for students to break away from any stress they may have and enjoy various games and socializing. It also helps that our dining hall is located right above it, which is my second favorite spot on campus!

What do I love most about Georgia College: The quality and accessibility of our professors. They do an excellent job of helping students with their professional development and genuinely want to see you succeed, as long as you do too! I enrolled at GCSU as a transfer student in 2020 and immediately noticed a positive difference in my relationships with faculty and classmates. I also love how well the GC Journeys Program prepares students for their future careers within their fields of study!

Fun fact about me: I love Karaoke!

Favorite restaurant in Milledgeville: The Velvet Elvis! I love the fried pickles and the buffalo chicken sandwich!

College Search Tip: Visit all your top choices!  It is so important to take a campus tour before you choose to attend.  Georgia College is beautiful and you feel like you're on a college movie set just being here.  When you step foot on campus, you'll know that GCSU is where you belong.

Fun fact about me: I have pictures with Rich Homie Quan and Lil Dicky from when they performed in the Centennial Center at Georgia College!

Favorite spot on campus: The quad in between Foundation and Parkhurst Halls is such a fun activity area. The space has been used for concerts, spike ball, studying, and I even remember a carnival taking over the space in the past! University Housing brought in rides and games with Community Advisors serving caramel apples and cotton candy - the best part is it was all free!

What do I love most about Georgia College: I love the close-knit community and how friendly all of the people are. Walking around the beautiful campus, you're always exchanging waves and smiles with familiar faces. The faculty members genuinely want to see students succeed and the students are happy to help each other. There's so much positive energy and meaningful philanthropy that comes from Georgia College.

Favorite restaurant in Milledgeville: Shima is my fav! Love their tuna roll combo.

College Search Tip: Find a place that fits you. A name, family relation, or fame from who attended will not help you succeed if you are not in an environment where you thrive. Choose a place with programs and opportunities that not only advance your professional skills, but your personal ones as well! Also, be sure that it has a great support system embedded in its values.

Fun fact about me: I grew up on the GCSU campus and can tell you just about anything you need to know, which helped me graduate with my B.S. from GCSU at the age of 19! On another note, I can do some pretty sick 360 degree spins on a knee board riding down Lake Sinclair.

Favorite spot on campus: I would have to say the secret courtyard in the middle of Arts and Sciences! It’s a great place to study or hang out and is typically pretty quiet, other than the water fountain noises.

What do I love most about Georgia College: I love how interpersonal the staff is. Throughout growing up on campus and attending the University, I was greeted with open arms by anyone I met, even if they did not know me or were not part of my major’s department. The professors truly care about your success, which comes with some tough love, but they are always there when you need a hug or a high five.

Favorite restaurant in Milledgeville: Bollywood Tacos!

College Search Tip: Do your research. Determine which schools have the majors/programs/career paths you are interested in and create a pros and cons list for each. Look into what items a campus needs to have for YOU to be successful. Talk with Alumni and/or people in the fields you are interested in to have something to refer to or learn from. And don’t forget about talking with your Admission Counselors! 😊

Fun fact about me: I LOVE insects. I took an Entomology class in college and it created an entirely new appreciation for them.

Favorite spot on campus: John Kurtz Field! It’s a great place to “catch” a game and hangout with a pet.

What do I love most about Georgia College: The holistic review process and the liberal arts education. Providing the opportunity for the diversification of a student’s education/college experience in order for them to be more marketable and successful not only in the workplace but as a global citizen.

Out of State: Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia

Favorite restaurant in Milledgeville: Bollywood Tacos

College Search Tip: Stay organized! Have a binder set up with tabs for each school you’re interested in. Put a “quick facts” sheet at the front of each tab with things like school size, distance from home, average class size, important deadlines, and helpful website links (application, financial aid, list of majors offered, admissions office contacts), what you love most about the school, and even what you don’t like about the school. Every time you get something important from a school, put it in the binder. It will help throughout the application process as well as your decision process. No matter where you end up, not only will it be fun to have that to look back on, but it’ll keep it from becoming overwhelming.

Fun fact about me: I’m no pro, but I know how to surf!

Favorite spot on campus: Einstein’s Bagels

What do I love most about Georgia College: It’s truly a community here. The students, the faculty, the staff, the people of Milledgeville – people care about one another and about the well-being of the city and campus. There’s a special kind of pride in our town and our college.
